Hi! I am Allie Marion - an entrepreneur, wife and mom driven to create beautiful and meaningful things. For over 10 years it has been my honor and joy to call photography my profession.
This is part three in this series and highlights all things related to a Mirco Wedding
What is a Micro Wedding you might ask? As defined by brides.com…
A micro wedding is an intimate affair, typically with no more than 50 guests. They still feature time-honored traditions that make a wedding but on a much smaller scale.
So now that we know what the definition is, I am going to share some pros & cons of this type of celebration in attempt to help you decide if it is the right decision for your special day!
The Pros of a Micro Wedding
With a smaller guest count you have more room in your budget for those special, unique, or over-the-top decorative elements you have dreamed about. This includes the quality of linen, abundance of florals, speciality lighting, unique rentals, and any additional traditions you may want to include; such as a catered brunch for you & your guests the following day.
You have more venue options with a smaller wedding because not all venues are equipped for a large group. This could include your favorite winery or boutique hotel.
With a smaller guest count (and perhaps as a way to narrow your head count) you could plan a semi-destination wedding (think car or train ride away). Plus, with living in California, the options are limitless….Catalina, San Diego, Paso Robles, Napa, Santa Cruz, the list goes on and on.
A smaller guest count could mean more money saved
A smaller guest count could mean a more lavish honeymoon
The Cons of a Micro Wedding
Not everyone you hope would attend would be invited
A more intimate occasion could feel slightly less of a party (if you plan on a packed dance floor, for example. This could also depend on who you invite too…)
It isn’t a feasible wedding plan for all cultures
Less gifts (If you are waiting until marriage to move in together, not receiving as many gifts could mean you don’t get as much as you hoped for to get you started in your new home.)
Overall, I think if you have a strong wedding vision which includes lavish details on a smaller budget, you are wanting to tie the knot during a pandemic, or guest count isnt a priority, then a Micro Wedding may be the perfect fit for you!
